The International Sign Language Day was celebrated on September 23rd at 10:30 AM in Marthoma School for the Deaf, Cherkala. The programme was jointly organized by Zainab Memorial B.Ed College in association with its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The theme of the event was “Let’s bridge silence with togetherness.”
The event began with a warm welcome speech delivered by Mr. Joshi, and Rev. Fr. Baby Mathew, Administrator of Marthoma School for the Deaf, greeted the dignitaries, staff, students, and guests present on the occasion.
The programme was then formally inaugurated by Dr. Neena M.K., Principal, Zainab Memorial B.Ed College, who highlighted the relevance of sign language in bridging communication barriers.
Following the inauguration, Ms. Aleena conveyed her wishes for the programme, appreciating the collaborative effort of the two institutions.
The session was enriched by talks delivered by Mr. Ameen Hussain, Chairman, Zainab B.Ed College, and Ms. Sheila, Headmistress of Marthoma School for the Deaf. Mr. Ameen Hussain spoke about the struggles and challenges faced by the Deaf community in everyday life, and how recognition of sign language as an official medium of communication can empower them.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, where gratitude was expressed to the organizers, speakers, faculty, and students who made the event meaningful. The participants left with a deeper appreciation for sign language and a renewed commitment to creating a society where communication is not a barrier but a bridge of togetherness.
